Whitman's Bio:
Walt was born on May 31, 1819. He grew up in Brooklyn with his 6 other siblings. When he was just 12, he began to learn the printer's trade. He later fel l in love with writing. In 1836, when he was 17, he began his career of teaching. He continued until 1841 , when he turned to journalism as a full-time career. When Walt was 19 he was writing and pr inting his own newspaper, the Long Islander. Slowly he began writing poems on his own. He later wrote poems to support the Union army in the civil war. Some of his best works were "Beat! Beat! Drums" and "O Captain! my Captain!"

My reaction to this poem is that i like it and it is a story that makes you think. Its a little hard to understand whats going on, but when you figure it out, it is something to think about. The poem uses things such as rhyme and imagery. The rhyme scheme in this poem is AABCDEFE GGHIJELE MMNOPEQE. The theme of this poem is that they have completed their harsh journey finally, but there captain is dead.

My reaction to this poem was that it was very sad and emotional. Poetic devices that were used were imagery. The rhyme scheme of the poem is AABCDABEFGHIJA. The thme of this story is obiviously about an emotional time in Whitman's life. It expresses much sadness and stress.

My thought about this poem is that it is pretty confusing. It was all over the place and was hard to understand. Poetic devices used in the poem where things like imagery and onomatopoeia. The rhyme scheme is ABCDEFG HIJKLMNOP QRSTUVW. The poem has historictal content because it was during the time of the civil war. The theme of this poem is about the drums of the civil war. The excitement of the poem shows that it could have been a song to rally the troops of the war.
